Besides getting to visit the AU campus, it's a great chance to hear some great panels and get some insight into new ways schools, organizations, and individuals are using social media.
This web site, if you haven't noticed, is powered by Squarespace and I first discovered them because they're good friends with my domain management people, Hover. The more I checked out Squarespace, the more I was impressed with it, so I eventually took the plunge. It's one of the most elegant products of its type that I've ever seen and I think it's well worth the money. But I do hope that whenever Squarespace 7 comes around - it comes with many more customization options...
Every once in awhile you stop to appreciate the moment we live in. Today it was as I stood in National Airport here in DC, waiting to see a friend off before she boarded her flight.
As I waited, my smartphone and headphones connected me LIVE to the music coming from Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance show. Every 50 episodes, Van Buuren hosts a huge tour around this time every year - this time for episode 600 of his global radio show. This year he's taken his live tour from places near as Miami, New York, and Mexico City - and as far as Kuala Lumpur, Minsk, and Sofia.
Each time I tune in, I marvel not only of that fact that I can listen in from just about anywhere from a device in my pocket - but also by the the fact that people all over the world are doing the same.
When smartphone usage crossed the 50% mark in 2012, I knew my days of holding out with my dumbphone were numbered. But one of the things that always frightened me about the devices - the price! Not the price of purchase - the price of replacement - the thought that I was carrying around a tiny gold bar that could be rendered useless by a small drop, dip in the pool, or thief in the night...
